Welcome to the DeKalb Public Library Events by Email List!

 

Today - Thursday, March 20th (Library hours: 9:00am - 9:00pm)

11:00am to 6:00pm - Behind Barbed Wire: Midwestern POWs in World War II
Germany.  This traveling exhibit (presented inside a BUS!) presents
artifacts, letters and photos from Midwestern POWs while in enemy
custody, as well as two movies playing throughout the day.  All ages are
encouraged to attend this FREE educational presentation.  Larger groups
are asked to contact the library to schedule a time, as the bus holds
only 20 people at once. The bus has a retractable step and grip bars,
but does not have a wheelchair lift or ramp.

2:00 - 5:00pm Children's Craft: Make Paper Models with Lon Clark
(pre-registration is required, sign up at the Children's Desk)

 

 

***Coming Up***  Monday, March 31st at 6:30pm - A fiber arts workshop
presented by Natasha Lehrer, creative director of Esther's Place.
Explore different fibers, processing techniques and spinning tools from
the modern to the ancient. Then, take part in a drop spindle lesson,
learning how to craft your own beautiful yarns. Participants will take
home a spindle and 4 oz of roving from the Illinois Green Pastures Fiber
Co-Op, and a new found appreciation for fiber! Limit 15 people for this
program, please register in advance at the Reference Desk.

 

***Coming Up***  A Reading of Zen Poetry by Lucien Stryk, American Zen
Poet and NIU Professor Emeritus.  Join us on Saturday, April 19th at
7:00pm at the home of Arlene and Clark Neher for the kickoff event of
the library's Endowment Fund Drive.  Tickets are $25.00 each, available
now, and proceeds go to the DeKalb Public Library Endowment Fund to help
purchase new materials for children and adults.  For more information,

***Coming Up***  Music In The Stacks makes its return!  Last year we had
a blast with local bands performing after hours at the library, with
drinks and snacks provided by Eduardo's Restaurant.  This year we have
even more groups planned, including Huntley Middle School's Orchestra!
Music In The Stacks is part of the library's Endowment Fund Drive, and
all proceeds will benefit the Endowment Fund.  For more information, or

***Coming Up***   Elizabeth Berg, author of Open House, We Are All
Welcome Here, and the upcoming The Day I Ate Whatever I Wanted is coming
to the DeKalb Public Library!  Join us on Saturday, July 12th at 12:30pm
at the Barsema Visitor's Center on NIU's campus for the final event of
the library's Endowment Fund Drive.  The program will include a
luncheon, lecture, and a question-and-answer time, as well as a book
signing opportunity.  Tickets will be made available on Monday, March
24th and are $30.00 per person for lunch and lecture.  For more

Looking for Game Night?  Our friends at OnBoard Games are taking a
hiatus from hosting Game Night here at the Library.  You can still find
them at their own store on Lincoln Highway.

 

Do you have scratched DVDs or CDs?  The DeKalb Public Library has a
machine that will clean and resurface them for you!  Pay just $2.00 a
disc (with discounts for multiple discs) and get your favorite movies or
albums back in brand-new condition.  See any service desk for details,
